Alien Alert!
Hello.
I've acually been given the secret handshake for a guest hosting for this weeks sunday show. My friends here have invited me over to the land of the 'rendered conciousness' and for this I must say thank you. We've had some duels before as I have my own blog that's more on the cyber-challenged list.
No plugs here, so don't worry.
Again Thanks!

5-19-00 New York City, NY was the date of this Elliot Smith show at Irving Plaza and I had the pleasure of being there for a bitchen show. I'd seen him accoustic before since his move to L.A. cuz he lived real close and knew people I did.
I'd been a fan of his previous LP's and now he was goin with a bigger production as his popularity grew post the Gus Van Zant movie "Good Will Hunting". He'd play in Silverlake all the time testing out the new songs and you could'nt help but see him at the bars hangin' in the corner as well. It was painfull to see such a shy person get cornered by the remoras stuck to his growing success.
Anyway, When the LP "XO" came out you could'nt help but like it. (I know alot that tried to give it the"sell out" label) The thing I love about it and this performance is that all the talented players are playing parts that he wrote and played for them. So, what you get is this distinct feel of... let's say, with the drumming; the mind and beat patterns of a non-drummer, being played by a pro. A good example of this feel is found on "Pet Sounds" and also assorted later Beatles stuff like "Abbey Road" and even "Sgt Peppers".(So I'm told) Just listen to "Mcartney"or "Ram" and listen to Paul playing himself and how much it sounds like "Abbey Road", but sloppier)
Sorry for getting all 'muso' on ya but I just like that stuff.
Thanks for letting me "share"!
"Duel" or "Selections"? Well, it's all a duel really, I guess.
Again, Thank you for letting me.....
