Black Holes Renamed “Cheneys”

The saddest thing, this isn’t suprising in the least. From RawStory:

So clandestine is the Vice President’s work that he has created a new secret document designation: “Treated As: Top Secret/SCI.”

That’s not all: the piece also reveals that Cheney keeps ‘man-size’ Mosler safes on hand for “workaday business” and has destroyed all Secret Service visitor logs, in addition to already refusing to comply with a national security directive issued by President Bush [..].

Not only does he refuse to give the names of his staff, Cheney won’t even disclose how many people he employs.

“Across the board, the vice president’s office goes to unusual lengths to avoid transparency,” the Post article says. “Cheney declines to disclose the names or even the size of his staff, generally releases no public calendar and ordered the Secret Service to destroy his visitor logs.”

“Stealth is among Cheney’s most effective tools,” the piece adds. “Man-size Mosler safes, used elsewhere in government for classified secrets, store the workaday business of the office of the vice president. Even talking points for reporters are sometimes stamped “Treated As: Top Secret/SCI.”

“Experts in and out of government said Cheney’s office appears to have invented that designation, which alludes to “sensitive compartmented information,” the most closely guarded category of government secrets,” the Post adds. “By adding the words “treated as,” they said, Cheney seeks to protect unclassified work as though its disclosure would cause “exceptionally grave damage to national security.”

The Post intimates that Cheney’s office is like a black hole — everything goes in, but nothing comes out.

first off, there are no sides. but just to entertain the thought, by “our” side you are refering to the american corporatocracy which seeks power for power’s sake and cares zero about any notion of common good, right? cause that dude’s definately on that side.

if he cared at all about the well being of the american citizen he wouldn’t of ordered a stand down command to our fighter jets that day.

man i hope you were being sarcastic.

Our side, meaning US citizens who have remained safe since 911(common good). PS-We have a capitalist system,I’m sorry you feel the need to condem the great system we have in America. Do you think socialism would better serve our free country?

  5. ian 25. Jun, 2007 at 3:35 pm #

    Mr. Beetle Juice.

I don’t think you fully understand how our country is actually set up. We don’t have an “Adam Smith” capitalist system that is completely hands-off. You may want that, and that’s cool. To each’s own. But don’t kid yourself that we are actually living in a “capitalist system”.

Yes, we do have a “capitalist system” in theory. But we also heavily subsidize major companies in this country (i.e. SOCIALISM!)

Hear are the biggest recipients of the U.S. Government corporate subsidies:

    Big Oil
    Pharmaceutical Industry
    Military Industrial Complex
    Farming Industry

The government is running a selective socialized system.

And interestingly enough, it is these same industries that are destroying our “common good”.

Oil…the planet is heating up, C02 levels are at an all time high, we must reverse course. It is Big Oil that is perpetuating OUR deteriorating air, and OUR deteriorating planet.

Pharma…when we subsidize a health care system that is forced, by law, to maximize profits for their shareholders, rather than provide better care…we are hurting the OUR own people.

War…our government funds war. Unnecessary war. And no, there weren’t any wmd’s in Iraq. And no, Saddam wasn’t involved in 9/11. And no, we are not safer because of the war in Iraq.

Our country socializes corporations that destroy the “common good”. Rationalize it all you want, but that’s what happening.

well stated ian. how anyone believes we are safer or better off with this administration is both sad and scary to me.

Damn straight Ian! Thank you for putting it so well.
This person seems oblivious to shading on any subject.
I guess for some people it’s just that simple,” I’m safe so Cheney’s good”!
His comments come straight from the Fox puppeteers.
Ya know you can pick out the sound bites from his post from the right wing’s rhetoric! (Your condeming our great system???)
Next we’ll be hearing how yer not a patriot!!!
I deal with this type way too much.

to answer your question, what ian said.

  9. beetlejuice 25. Jun, 2007 at 10:59 pm #

Ian, I respect your opinions on these issues, however,I just disagree with your assertions. For example, global warming and it’s causes are still up for debate (regardless of Al Gores assertions). Also pharmaceutical companies need to be profitable and beholden to their shareholders, how else can they bring new drugs to market? As you know it takes millions of dollars,FDA, etc to bring these drugs to us. Why would a company start a business if they couldn’t make a profit at some point? The citizens of America hated the civil war also. But,I’m sure you would agree it was for a good cause. (history, (not you or I) will expose the truth about this current war. Also, I don’t believe, as you do, that all corporations are a bad thing. Some are, but most aren’t. Great blog, peace.

If you’re going to take the George Bush approach to this war, that it’s “just a comma” in the grand scheme of history, then good on ya. I can’t argue with that. I feel there’s enough “history” already written about this war that I’m confident it will make W look even worse than his 27% ass already does.

In regards to my feelings on corporations, I never once said “all corporations are bad”. I know that’s the common catch-phase thrown around to discredit liberals, that we want to implant socialist Europe into America, but come on, enough of the slogans.

The point I’m trying to make, that I’m not sure you got, is that large corporations are being socially subsidized in this country. When corporation are subsidized, the market is no longer a level playing field. Thus, any industry that is subsidized is not a “free-market”.

Let’s take the Energy Industry. Our tax money subsidizes Chevron, Exxon-Mobil to help them find new oil fields, or clean up spills, or steal oil in Iraq. Because of this hand-out, they are able to keep the price of oil at a relatively low price in the U.S. compared the rest of the world.

If gas was the price it is in Europe, there would be a massive effort already underway in America to rid ourselves of oil because we just wouldn’t be able to afford it. That’s how a market works. Unfortunately, we’ve chosen to rig the oil market which stifles competition and innovation.

I also believe we should get off of oil because I also don’t like subsidizing Middle Eastern countries. And the whole global warming “thing”…but never mind that for now.

by the way, I appreciate your comments. you’ve gotten me re-energized to start writing some more pinko-liberal-french-islamo facist posts. Thanks!

hey,it’s (really)tough being a conservative (and a surfer). But surfers are open-minded,and dialogue is good. i visited the “raw story” web site-interesting-I wouldn’t have sought it out,but i’m open to diverse viewpoints, and really do try to include “shades” in my thinking. One site I enjoy is Little Green Footballs http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/

    Peace (I think)

much agreed mr. beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice!, we do really appreciate you offering your opinions and opening up a dialogue. talking to yourself in the mirror gets old after awhile.

    cheers!

I see the same hyperbole on LGF and Rawstory.Secular humanists and religious fanatics can both be extreme, but most people are fairly rational.Simply because we have opposing viewpoints does not mean we are fanatical.Just because my view is that global warming is a naturally occuring cycle, does not make me a fanatic. The job of both media extremes (Fox (Malkin) and others)is to get us (you and me) wound up at each other, instead of staying in a dialogue. It’s easy to throw bombs, much harder to stay in the dialogue. peace
