This particular tune comes from his 2005 video and cd “Timbuktoubab”; Markus James is one of the cutting edge people in blues and specifically “World Blues” from Mali..( combing Delta and Malian music),a place he has visited ,recorded and produced since 1994…. he played with and produced Ali Farke Toure, among many others ,as well as the “Festival in the Desert” programs.
Lucky to see him locally in Nov’ 04..along with Tinariwen and a freaking Fabulous Malian female singer named Ramatou Diakite..who I think stole the show…it was a perfect antidote to the letdown after the “election”..the audience was stoked!

i am LOVING the new Tinariwen album, “Water Is Life”. i remember you bringing around a cd of theirs awhile back and that i didn’t really give it the proper listen. for shame i’m finding out. they’ve been a wonderful rediscovery.
Great video depicting African culture…The music really vibes with the theme of the video…I work with Toyota and they recently wrapped up the four city tour for the Yaris vs Yaris events…it was mainly a DJ battle and shoe sneaker design competition that had celeb guest judges…Besides the competition, there were tons of other things goin on like special hip hop performances, and things of that nuature…to check out some video and pics of the events in each of the four cities, check out http://www.yarisversusyaris.com for some awesome videos of the events.
