90 per 100

With this disturbing quote “it has been very peaceful here (for 6 years) since we were attacked” rattling around in my brain today, I’d thought post an article in came across a couple of weeks back.

The headline says it all:

U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people

GENEVA (Reuters) – The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.

U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world’s 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.

About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.

There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people,” it said.

    Thanks Ian.
I was hoping you’d comment on that.
‘Peaceful’ was certainly the wrong word to use.
I know he’s speaking of ‘terror’ attacks from outside the U.S. , as this has been
the Beetle “Mantra” on this subject.
I think a little thought would dismiss his ideas that these “terrorists” have even
really tried. He thinks, like Bush, That “were safer now”!!!
Gen Betray us even doesn’t know that one!
I just think there has’nt been a serious attempt by real groups to attack.
We seem to be fucking up enough on our own to satisfy them as they recruit and strengthen due to our policies.
