Another year, another blurred weekend of loud music, sunburns, and undulating seas of humanity. Highlights included: – Access to showers. – Randomly meeting this guy, then later seeing his band (Les Savy Fav) play. – Watching Prince on the jumbo screen from afar, just heroically exorcising his guitar Hendrix style. Like, wow. – Witnessing a [...]
Hidden cost of Iraq
by Ian on 27. Apr, 2008 in war
What I’m reading this morning… The U.S. Department of Defense reports that approximately 30 percent of those evacuated from the battlefield to Walter Reed Army Medical Center have traumatic brain injury (TBI). The problem is probably worse than that: the DOD figure does not include brain injuries in soldiers whose wounds were not severe enough [...]

Hillary, Iran, and Israel walk into a bar…
by Jacob on 21. Apr, 2008 in fear, politics, war
It should be noted that in the last few days Senator Clinton has said some pretty out there things regarding Iran and the defense of Israel. In last week’s ABC sponsored shit show, Hillary in passing mentioned massive retaliation on Iran if they were to attack Israel in any way. No follow up question was [...]

Byrne/Eno 21st Century
by Jacob on 18. Apr, 2008 in music
Brian Eno and David Bryne have a new project in the works, along with some possible live shows here in the US. Hell yes: Speaking at an event in New York, Byrne revealed that the duo had rekindled the relationship they formed in the late 70s/early 80s which resulted in three Talking Heads records and [...]
A Shit Show
by Ian on 17. Apr, 2008 in politics
That debate last night was a shit show. I mean that in the most literal sense possible. A complete shit show. It was like Gibson and Stephenjklsdjklfa were in South Park and decided that shitting out of their mouth was the cat’s pajamas.
Stars of the Lid – Echoplex
by Jacob on 15. Apr, 2008 in music
Last night I attended this show at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Stars of the Lid are Brian McBride and Adam Wiltzie, a ‘drone-ambient’ duo formed in Austin, Texas. The band’s name refers to “your own personal cinema, located between your eye and eyelid”, suggesting the colors and patterns one can see with closed eyes. [...]
A Few Thoughts
by Jacob on 13. Apr, 2008 in politics
First off, they’re all elitists. Secondly, what do you call an elitist that’s absolutely right? Thirdly, I’d prefer to be talked down to by someone who actually understands my problems rather than pandered at by someone pretending to be on my level.
