    a great day..
and a positive reflection on this country.

No illusions here..as Utah Phillips said..

signing on with the Democrats ..”is like booking a seat on the Titanic..”

but we have to start somewhere..and these folks are the only organized group ..
who can realistically make the change from ..or at least slow down..

the takeover of the last, great hope of current mankind,
from the insidious Fascist war mongering unrepentant murderers that currently inhabit..unlawfully..the White House and wield power from same.

    With predictably horrifying result.

So, I am stoked with Obama..

    Congrats to the U.S.of A.

    it’s a start.

Obama had my vote until I heard him pledge his allegiance to Israel.
I’m not going to waste my time voting for the next puppet.
Instead I feel like burning my flag & writing Fuck Israel on my car.

The Republicans have been in the state of retardation for quite a while and the Democrats have been blind as bats for some time now. The blind leading the retarded.

    Jon P. message..

    I recommend you do so.

Seems like there are many “progressive” anti-semites. In fact I have Jewish friends who don’t care if their brothers in Israel live or die, they’ll still vote for Obama to get their freebies, and socialist utopian ideals. Socialism doesn’t work no matter how noble it seems.

  8. ian 07. Jun, 2008 at 4:43 am #

I don’t get the whole Socialism thing. No one is calling for it. I didn’t see people calling Bush the new Socialist when he passed the Medicaid bill.

Conservatives are “Socialists” too, they just like to give the government’s money to private corporations (see Iraq War), while the progressives like to give it to people in need (see universal Health Care).

I guess Socialism is the new code word on the right to try to discredit Obama with. I find it funny because I think it actually helps Obama. Not because people want Socialism, but because it helps isolate conservatives even further to the back of the cave. Marxist is also being thrown around too (I’ve seen Rove through that pitch a couple of times on faux news).

  9. bb 07. Jun, 2008 at 7:07 am #

The closest thing to socialism in this country came out of ‘The New Deal’. And that was a bad thing? Talk about elitist thinking (head-slap), look in the mirror.

Free market neo-liberalism created Enron, food shortages in 3rd world countries, oil speculation, housing market crash, latin illegal immigration. Look around these problems did not come out of “over regulation’ or government programs. No progressive programs have come out of Bush or Clinton governments.

As far as Obama kissing Israel’s ass, he is just selling his vote again just like all moderate democrats do so very well.

It is so very sad that all we can hope for is that maybe he won’t sellout when he takes power. That was the hope for Pelosi and her congress.

Obama did go too far the other day with his statements at the AIPAC meeting. Unfortunately any serious discussion, and hopefully some action, on the Israel/ Palestine situation will have to wait until after the election. Irrespective of what he said, I have a sneaky feeling he will be much more even handed than it appears. With this in mind I won’t even touch the comments of Jon P.
As I mentioned in a previous comment, Mr. Beetlejuice’s casual ill informed use of the term socialism seems to be hardwired into his brain, and beyond that downright pathological. My question is, when will these right wing ‘Social Darwinists’ figure out that their ethos of selfishness is not working, and will not work as we move forward in these incredibly critical and complicated times. Hey, and just for the hell of it check out that wild and crazy Preamble to the Constitution. ”We the people…. in order to form a more perfect union…..” Pretty ‘utopian’ ay. It is time that ‘Joe citizen remember that, we are the government, and hold our elected officials’ feet to the fire, and wright this sinking ship.
Oh yeh, and how bout all this groovy deregulation brought to us by the ‘wonderful’ Republicans’, Bill Clinton included. We might want to ask ourselves who are the son of a bitch commodities brokers and Hedge funders that are artificially driving up oil prices. Sorry folks, this is not the pure ‘free market’ at work. It’s pure greed and selfishness. It’s time to start taking names. About two weeks ago the head of Shell Oil said that without the speculators hands in it, oil would be fluctuating in the $35.00 to $60.00 a barrel range. That’s it for now.

  11. Jon P. 07. Jun, 2008 at 8:47 am #

No Dr. Robert, I can’t do that.
Sorry, I’m just frustrated. People who don’t know me would take it the wrong way & I would probably offend many of my Jewish friends in the community. I just don’t want to see Israel commit suicide
& drag everyone else into it.

  12. beetlejuice 07. Jun, 2008 at 5:23 pm #

    Dude,
I realize that there isn’t pure capitalism here, nor will there be pure socialism, but as a conservative I feel that socialist philosophy is flawed, because it negates the “individual in favor of the group” As we all know the individual vision and drive create greatness, commitees don’t” .Selfishness and ego drive people to do great things because they have a vision they must see to fruition.(sound familiar?) Socialist philosophy in general and excessive taxation stifles the individual in favor of the group.
No one really believes what Obama says is what he really means, they just reply,”oh he doesn’t mean that,he means this” etc. What do we go by if not a candidate’s words? Is he just trying to pacify his anti-semetic progressive base by his Israel comments?
    Peace (dammit!):)

  13. malcolm 07. Jun, 2008 at 6:25 pm #

No one in this conversation is talking about subjugation of the individual for the sake of the group. Yes ego can be a driving element to achieve great things, and even greater things will result if they are done with selflessness. There are many examples throughout history.
Peoples’ insistence on reinforcing the concept individuality and separateness is a symptom of lack of understanding of ‘the self’. This is not a political statement. The idea that we individually exist in any way, shape, or form totally independent from anyone, and any thing is an illusion.
As for Obama pacifying anti-Semites, Mr Beetlejuice must not have heard the speech. The reason that I thought he went over the top, especially from a candidates position, was that he spoke of an undivided Jerusalem as the capital of Isreal. Who was he trying to pacify there? Surely not the anti-Semites
Teamwork babe. The Lakers are surely not going to succeed by the excelling of an individual at the expense of the team.
And please don’t call me Dude. Although I am a huge fan of Mr. Lebowski aka ‘The Dude’.

  14. Dr. Robert 07. Jun, 2008 at 6:52 pm #

    sorry Jon P.

    I was being a bit facetious…I know the frustration…

I despise the Israeli fascism we see… daily .. especially since the early 80′s…

so sad to have to realize the current Israeli power structure now resembles nothing more than mid 20th century Germany..(Lebanon/Poland), or late 19th century Russia (Gaza/Pogrom).

and this Country is the primary supporter of same.

as I said, no illusions here..what we have now in the U.S. is a start..
    only that.

keep the faith..keep the bastards feet to the fire… and
    keep being peace.

  15. beetlejuice 07. Jun, 2008 at 10:51 pm #

The Malcolm (abides), I didn’t see the speech but know that many in America are filled with rabid hatred toward Israel.Seems like same ol’ same ol’ to me. But maybe they have a good reason to hate Jews…

  16. Jw 08. Jun, 2008 at 3:24 am #

There are no answers only TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS. You guys are debating down the rabbit hole. Have a fun trip.

  17. bb 08. Jun, 2008 at 6:33 am #

nothing wrong with temporary solutions, they offer a temporarily end of suffering. And life is so much more than a fun trip, thanks :)

my discountenance w/ Israel is over that states actions, which seem to stem from unabated paranoid fear. How can you hate someone/ thing that is making decisions from such a diseased state of mind. There are other positions to enact.

that goes for Bush/Chenny as well,

it is hard to ‘see’/acknowledge ugly destructive forces in the world.

but if you don’t you recreate the problem and the suffering churns on

btw where’s the faith? maybe the Lakers can cast-off their long history of ego driven dominance over others and except each other as different but equals- I wouldn’t bet on it.

  18. malcolm 08. Jun, 2008 at 8:39 am #

Nice comments bb. We do indeed need to just keep plugging away. Progress will be made………
For the record, my Mom was Jewish, so technically I AM as well. Jewish culture and faith are a solid part of what make tick. I’m well aware of the endemic anti Jewish currents both here and abroad. Serious and constructive dialog must take place within our country if we are going to help mediate the out of control madness of the Israeli /Palestinian conflict. Criticism of Israeli government policy must not be immediately dammed as anti Israel, as is done constantly by the Right in this country. If you are Jewish and are critical of Israel you are labeled a ‘self hating Jew’. This is all craziness. There is more honest conversation about Palestinian rights going on in Israel than there is our country. We are just screaming back and forth, with no movement forward. Hopefully once the present group of war criminals are out of office some progress can be made. In the mean time we need to speak up about Gaza which is currently the largest prison on planet earth.
    GO LAKERS !!!!!!

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, Obama has the coolest suits I’ve ever seen. Who is that man’s tailor?

  20. Jon P. 09. Jun, 2008 at 8:56 am #

I blows me away how much racism and prejudice still exists today.
Perhaps some travel or more education could help Beetlejuice
    with his problem.

  21. beetlejuice 09. Jun, 2008 at 4:02 pm #

    Jon,
Aren’t you the one who wants to paint “Fuck Israel” on your car!? Thanks for the advice Jon…

  22. Jon P. 09. Jun, 2008 at 9:02 pm #

I said “feel like” not “want”. Very different.
Why don’t you go back and reread what Dr. Robert, Malcolm and bb said, and maybe you will understand what I meant. It had nothing to do with race or citizens of a country. It was just a reaction from a perceived sellout by Obama at the AIPAC meeting, directed toward the government.
All three of them got it. What happened to you?

  23. beetlejuice 10. Jun, 2008 at 6:40 pm #

They “got it” because you all have the same opinions. I don’t agree with your opinions.Obama’s a sell-out because he mentioned wanting to support Israel? A sell-out to who? The people who hate Jews and Israel and their right to protect themselves? It still sounds like your antisemtic like others here.Oh well.

  24. malcolm 10. Jun, 2008 at 9:32 pm #

This is the last time I am going to say this, and I’ll say it as simply as possible. Criticizing Israeli Government policy and caring about fundamental human rights for Palestinian citizens does NOT make one an anti-Semite. Those who continually play the anti-Semite card, and there are far too many, need to take a deep breath and do some serious homework. The areas of study should include Middle Eastern history and the three branches of theology and culture transmitted out from the Sons of Abraham, which originated within our consciousness time zone via Melchizedek, to whom Abraham paid tithes, and as it says in Hebrews Ch.5 verse 6, referring to Jesus; “You are a priest forever according to the manner of Melchizedek” There are things at work on many levels in this area of the world and they should not be trivialized by the myopic name calling that is so wide spread. I’m outta here………..

  25. beetlejuice 11. Jun, 2008 at 5:25 am #

Well said,I’ll wait ’til the end times for this to play itself out.
