Sunday Morning Art

I know the posts have been scarce here recently. Part due to traveling, part due to the summer, part due to work on the new bonzer5 site, but I came across something this morning and wanted to pass it on…

In what my be the one of the more interesting performance art pieces I’ve seen, Joseph DeLappe and his Gandhi avatar walked through Second Life (an online virtual world) for 26 days to reenact his famous 1930′s Salt March. And to do so, he created a customized treadmill that controlled his Gandhi avatar by real life walking.

That was in March. He has now created a 17′ cardboard sculpture of his Gandhi avatar designed to be the same height as Michelangelo’s David.

I’m going to try to swing by this week to check it out and get a few pics.

there is something nagginly disturbing about this..

I say nagging..because I’m not quite sure what it is…

but it seems to be “walking” a fine line that may tip towards trivializing a historically , and morally important event.

kind of like Scooby Do as Jesus winking at us from the cross..(winking controlled by a custom hand held mouse..).

on the other hand..”art”..so-called, has among its’ functions the ability to force self examination..and critical thought.
    so,
    in that sense..mission accomplished!
