and the exquisite finals’ surfing of Mr’s Slater and Burrows..
reminded me of how far we’ve come..or not..since this meeting between Curren and Occy..22 years ago.
Check out how difficult it would have been to surf those waves at Bells ..shifty semi close outs…kind of like Trestles the other day, but a wee bit bigger, and way funkier..I am quite sure I wouldn’t have made the paddle out.
What strikes me is the acute angle of attack by Curren and Occy..relentless..and beautiful..
despite the incredible colour of their wetsuits.

and that tom curren bottom turn at 1:40 in is transcendent.
