Bert Jansch..”Nottamun Town”

here’s a song that reflects a genre of story telling in which a whole culture, or way of life..has been turned on it’s head..

up is down..black is white.. we sit backwards upon our horse.. and dust quenches thirst.

this is in essence a protest song from way..way..back in the history of the British Ilse’s..

it comes to us in code.. as far as lyric..the opposite is true… at the time..thats the only safe way to communicate.

you can find similar stories and songs everywhere..Black America, Hawaii,Native Americans, Australia…

this is Bert Jansch from about 1966.

in terms of choice of song..and musically ..this is
an example of why Neil Young refers to him as his favorite guitarist..”the acoustic Jimi Hendrix”..

Bert is essential listening..working strong today with great company..Beth Orten and so many others..
check the latest LP..”Black Swan”.

He may someday get his full due..but maybe not.

P.S.
and I didn’t even mention Pentangle..Nick Drake..John Renbourn. Danny Thompson,.or Led Zeppelins cover of Bert’s “Blackwaterside”..
among other things.
