From reading the youtube comments on this, it appears this gentleman and the news guy are located in Huntsville, Alabama.

He refers to a couple adjacent towns..”Guntersville” and “Newhope”, 38 and 18 miles away, respectively.
Certainly it would be a long walk to each from Huntsville,
    and an even longer strut.

One can only surmise as to the motivation for his passionate exposition. Some possibilities include:

    1. He is currently between jobs, has no car, and has just been displaced from the sidewalk by a pack of yuppie joggers. Thus the Mercedes Benz rant..additionally and concurrently,he has just finished reading a Noam Chomsky book and is acutely sensitive to class inequities . He is thus articulating the structural basis and necessity for socio/economic change.
    2. He is simply a bad ass drunk.
    3. He is a bad ass drunk on crack.

In any event, people in this state can be tricky to deal with..the news guy was not wise to try to establish some empathy when he asked..”well whats got you so mad today’?
That question could have backfired badly.

In this instance it’s best to tread softly, and be grateful the man was not behind the wheel of a 4000 pound F-150 Ford pick-up truck.
    Glad you enjoyed the post!

i kept thinking he was saying, “walk the gutters,” which carried a surprisingly poetic air to it, like this guy was some sort of street mystic, forced through major hardship and/or bad luck into a vagabond’s life of existential wanderings (of mind and body).

or, he may just be a pissed drunk. but i’d like to think the former.

    Jman..

I don’t think either one of those possibilities exclude the other..

(thats why I am careful to engage folks like this..you never know who’s going to pop up)!

Richard Thompson (via Rumi) said it well:

‘God loves a drunk, the lowest of men
Like the dogs in the street, and the pigs in the pen

But a drunks’ only trying to get free of his body
And soar like an eagle high up there in heaven

His shouts and his curses are just hymns and praises
To kick start his mind now and then

O God loves a drunk, come raise up your glasses..amen”

i got the strange “mystic” vibe as well the other day when i saw and borrowed this shocking find.
    and i echo….”where did you… How’d you find…?”

“The secret of life,” said sculptor Henry Moore to poet Donald Hall, “is to have a task, something you devote your entire life to, something you bring everything to, every minute of the day for your whole life. And the most important thing is — it must be something you cannot possibly do.”

bb and Duncan..you’re both right on the money..
my task is Peace, and I guess I got 10 miles to go down the 9 mile road to accomplish that one.
better check the odometer..could be closer than I think.
