An amazing clip here… to what’s sure to be an equally moving film. How deeply beautiful and profound its sentiment.
From the film’s Kickstarter Page:
Alive Inside is the story of Dan Cohen, a small town social worker who discovers the power personalized music has to “awaken” and regenerate deeply locked memories in patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Today, in the US alone, there are 5 million people suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia, and this number is expected to double in the next 25 years. A staggering 1 in 6 of us will develop some form of dementia and, with the world’s population aging, this number will only increase.
Alive Inside follows Dan as he struggles to change the lives for those affected, and to make personalized music a standard of care in all 16,000 nursing homes in the US.

Hat-tip to C. Altman, who’s new film The Color Wheel I’m also very keen to see.

My father is in a home due to multiple strokes and Parkinson’s Disease. I brought him an ipod put his favorite country music on it and played it and he had almost the exact response. Before I put the music on he was in almost a comatose state. Ten minutes later he is smiling and telling dirty jokes.
Thanks for sharing Jacob.
Thank you for sharing J.W.
Jacob, i also have a family member in the early stage Alzeimers/ dementia land.
While she is not at the point this man is, i constantly see her light up because of music.
A very similar episode to his “Cab Calloway” experience was achieved with Merle Travis’s “Sixteen Tons”.
She went from a far away look to completely engaged and new every line.
This is an amazing project and encourage the donations page for the less fortunate that do not have the access.
Thank you so much,
Steve
