from the DVD “Speaking For the Trees”. I say the best thing Chan has ever done. Concept and execution.
I will say for honorable mention here is The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble “War” also in the Trees venue and very different including some volume , power and all acoustic. A True Brass Band. The outside, as as arena , is visually beautiful but aurally a challenge. Very little reflective sound, so it can come across flat. No reverb or echo ‘sugar coatings’ .Just “As naked As It Comes”. And it comes down to all the performer. (Chan gets help from the bugs, i think, although it could be some technical aid via added later. Not sure if the crickets would be that boldly percussive.
