Sunday Selections: M. Ward

M. Ward - Chinese Democracy

Perhaps the most consistent artist from today’s contemporary crop of songwriters. The man has yet to put out a bad song.

Warm, stately, generous music that will fit within any space you allot it. The full band setup works well here I think, but stripped down the guy’s even more engrossing. Transistor Radio, and Transfigurations of Vincent are both exceptional and great starting points.

Dig the Transy album titles.

I happened upon My Morning Jacket opening for John Prine in Hollywood. They were great, but a stripped down ensemble. Again I saw them at HOB, with the full band, not as good though. I do like that countrified happy sound.
