Gnarloo Petition

A friend of ours sent us a link to this petition concerning Rip Curls attempt to gain government approval for an ASP event in August 2008 at “Tombies” at Gnarloo. Here’s the email he sent:

Dear Friends:

I have blind link emailed about 100 of you to sign a petition to keep Rip Curl from having one of their contests in a pristine area of Western Australia. I know that the contest they had in Mexico 2 years ago ruined a spot that was known about, but not well publicized. Now the area has become a nightmare. They just move on.

When I looked at some of the signatures, I was surprised how many known surfers felt this event shouldn’t go forward in this area, how many names I recognized. You can sign ‘anonymously’ if you like.

This is difficult for me as I knew the founders of the company, was originally sponsored not only to Australia by one of them, but later sponsored by Rip Curl given wetsuits, and even work. However, this is wrong and has gone too far. The greed in surfing has become pathological, unfortunately.

I signed it, I hope you would consider doing the same. Also, please forward this petition site, but I would ask that you remove my email address.

If you don’t agree, simply delete the email. Please don’t email me back whining.

Thanks.

Again, here’s the LINK to the petition.

Rip Curl continues on their rape and pillage of the surfing world. Come join the search and be the ultimate hypocrite. Ruin a surf spot to fill a bank account and sell things today!!!
