Purple Rain in the Desert

Countdown to Coachella y’all.

In a surprise announcement earlier today, organizers for the festival said Prince will be (dis)gracing the main stage on Saturday night, effectively and unjustly bumping Portishead and Kraftwerk down a slot. Purple Rain!!!!!

Aren’t the B-52s back? Rock Lobster people, now THAT would’ve been a worthy surprise. I’m never briefed on these things.

Like last year, I’ll be out there for the weekend selling water, Gatorade, and most likely my soul to the masses. Loud music and smelly thirsty hipster people for days.

And while most of the top tier acts lack in the, lets say, relevancy category, there’s always a TON of great medium/smaller bands to see in the evil heat. Below would be my wishlist for who to catch those 3 days, along with a downloadable rar file of said bands.

Holy Fuck - “Lovely Allen”
Les Savy Fav - “Patty Lee”
Akron/Family - “Lake Song/New Ceremonial Music For Moms”
The Cinematic Orchestra - “Breathe”
Portishead - “The Rip”
Kraftwerk - “Tongebirge”
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - “Keep On Looking”
Black Lips - “Cold Hands”
Man Man - “Top Drawer”
Hot Chip - “One Pure Thought”
Spiritualized - “Baby I’m Just a Fool”
Battles - “Race: Out”

*Download COACHELLA mix and rock ‘n’ roll on!

[UPDATE]
I was maybe a little too hard on Prince. By the accounts of a few people I’ve spoken with, Prince does bring the thunder live and puts on a great show. Judgment reserved.

    dude,
    good recovery…
you cannot deny the Purple One’s intense musicality and his frankly astounding guitar skills…
up close and personal at the Desert should be a true experience..

    as for Kraftwerk at Coachella…uh…

    judgment reserved.

ha, yeah i was definitely a bit too reactionary about The Artist. i’m sure he’ll win me over.

i still would’ve loved to seen the B-52s, “Planet Claire” with those palm trees in the background… pure gold.

    Curious about Kraftwerk’s stage time?
Who get’s the coveted ‘dusk in the desert’ slot?
“Computer Love” in a dusty sundown?
sounds nice.(although that mass o’ people got me feared)
