The night before last I finally got the chance to see Explosions in the Sky. They didn’t disappoint (my high expectations). They said it was the biggest show they’ve ever done alone and fed off of the crowd all night. After an incredible last song, the crowd hung around waiting for an encore. The venue music started to play but the crowd didn’t go anywhere. About five minutes later, guitarist Munaf Rayani finally came out and rather than play another song, he said “We’ve given everything we have. Thank you all.” These days encores are standard, and there’s a let down if it doesn’t happen. But the show was so fulfilling and complete, Rayani’s little message gave us closure to an amazing show.

There’s a video & some pics taken by the lovely Allyson Merritt after the break…

absolutely terrific. so great you guys finally got to see them.

i caught them the middle of last month out here on the left coast. like you said, they do not disappoint.

what did you think of the opening guy Lichens? i’m pretty sure he’s from another planet.

arrived late so only we caught the very end of Lichens. wish we would have seen more of him. didn’t know anything about him until that afternoon. I played a clip of him before we left on youtube and allyson said, “What is that?”. Another planet he is.
