Crimson Lives!

This is a great clip, one of several tour diary videos coming from Robert Fripp’s record label DGM Live. They’re documenting the current resurrection of King Crimson. The band opened with a few shows in Nashville, Chicago, and Philadelphia earlier this month, and last night they began what will be a four night stand at the Nokia Theatre in New York City (get on it Ian). Their present lineup includes:
Robert Fripp - guitar
Adrian Belew - guitar, vocals
Tony Levin - Chapman stick
Pat Mastelotto - drums, percussion
Gavin Harrison - drums, percussion
This particular clip captures the wide and eclectic swath of Crimson concert goers as they line up outside pre-show; everyone from the old crusty journeymen to the new Crimson nerds to even a few female fans.
Side note: one of the first, if not the first, concert I ever went to was King Crimson at the Ventura Theatre in 1996. Our own Dr. Robert attended the show as well. And from what I remember, it was way more than I could possibly take in, let along comprehend. It may have been child abuse actually. Six guys on stage (their ‘Double Trio’ incarnation), anchored by a strangely omnipotent guitar player perched on a stool, the man NEVER MOVED, florescent lights and noise flying everywhere, and myself with absolutely no clue as to what sounds were coming from where. As we left, a man descending from the balcony staircase yelled repeatedly, “Yeah Fripp!!”…It was a memorable first concert.
I’ve since seen them three times, and with confidence I can now say I know where at least a couple sounds come from.

excellent clip..great performance art;
the guy with the Crimson tatoo is a bit disturbing however….
‘got the tatoo 3 yrs ago..”
really, where?
my guess is the slammer..look at his eyes when he talks..
spooky stuff man.
yes ,I remember the concert..I had got 4 free tickets from the promoter in return for interviewing Tony Levin..a good exchange…I still have it on tape… Tony also gave me an invite to hang out backstage with the lads..but I chickened out..what would I say?
That was an amazing concert..disorientating in some aspects..I do recall speculating on the potential longterm effects on you and Ian…
it was kind of like spiking some unsuspecting souls afternoon tea with acid..but your old man took full responsibility for the results…
a stand up guy all the way around, and really..what a first concert!
