Obama V. McCain - 6pm PST live blog
Oct 15th, 2008 by jacob
Update 8pm: CBS Poll: Obama blowout. 55%-22% ……… CNN Poll: Obama blowout again: 58%-31% WOW - defintely not what I expected. ic
- 7:38 PST - End: i’m not too hot on this debate. i felt Obama didn’t attack enough, but that’s my progressive side. but that might also have played well with people who are still wishy-washy. we’ll see with the snap polls.
It was an entertaining debate though, which was nice. But I guess that was mostly due to McCain spazing out in the begining.
I will also add, Obama was much more “Macro”, while McCain was so Micro on the issues. Obama talked about the future of this country while McCain seemed like he always wanted to talk about the small points. ic - 7:34 PST - Final verdict: McCain did well, he played the role of going after the top dog pretty good. but Obama again looked the part more. he spoke about what he wanted to do and McCain tried to tear everything down. did he succeed in convincing people Obama’s not ready? we’ll see… but i doubt it. jc
- 7:24 PST - McCain: f–k public schools. lets bring soldiers back to teach kids without a credential or certificate? did he really just say that? jc
- 7:15 PST - “change the culture of America”? do tell John. McCain’s beating a dead horse here. if someone’s going to vote against Obama because of abortion, they were voting already for McCain. Obama explained his supposed ‘anti-life’ vote well. jc
- 7:07 PST - McCain’s gotta have an ulcer by now. jc
- 7:04 PST - just flipped over to CNN to check out “The dial”. Lame, but what’s actually interesting is there’s a split screen so you can always see their facial expression. it’s fun to watch Obama eat away at Mccain’s insides. ic
- 7:00 PST - I love how Obama just laughs off McCain petty attacks. and they are petty. McCain keeps going back to taxes… because he’s got nothing. i don’t know, i don’t think McCain’s coming off very well. a little jittered and not very focused. HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH JOE THE PLUMBER. jc
- 6:55 PST - I think McCain’s doing well so far. He’s on the attack the whole time, acting like he cares about the issues (when it talks about them). I’m predicting 50-50 draw in the snap polls after the debate. I still don’t think it changes the game much over all, but Obama’s defintely not blowing him out tonight.
- 6:49 PST - Well no “maverick”, but “cock a-maimie” counts as double. ic
- 6:48 PST - McCain’s bringing back “cocka-maimie”. i thought only dad said that. jc
- 6:45 PST - Obama: you’re not going to be able to fund that Autism research you just talked about because you called for a “spending freeze”. HAHA. Set ‘em up…Knock ‘em down. ic
- 6:42 PST - oh he JUST got that Ayers dig in. they were supposed to move on, but McCain couldn’t let it go. alright, i think it’s time to move on boys… the electorate doesn’t give a shit about all this. think McCain will say ‘maverick’ when he talks about Palin? 10 to 1 he does. jc
- 6:37 PST - McCain: “ACORN destroying the fabric of America” hahaha. what a fucking idiot. ic
- 6:34 PST - he’s attacking your POLICIES McCain, not you personally… like say linking you to a domestic terrorist? jc
- 6:28 PST - oh here we go with the town halls. it’s all Obama’s fault people yelled ‘kill him’ at a McCain rally. jc
- 6:25 PST - Fox News dig! extra points B. Ooo he got McCain on the defensive. jc
- 6:21 PST - again with the overhead projector? jeez McCain got on a run there, words started to out run his thoughts a little bit. jc
- 6:18 PST - LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!. McCain forgot to take his meds. ic
- 6:14 PST - McCain: Obama wants to spread the wealth around. Uhhhhh….i think that’s what the bailout was about that you just voted for, only in reverse - bottom to the top. But when did “spreading the wealth” become a bad thing anyway? McCain thinks he’s in a different era. ic
- 6:10 PST - with the sit down format, seems like it should go pretty civially. Obama’s not going to crack up, McCain probably not either. McCain’s on ‘Joe the Plumber’s” side. jc
- 6:04 PST - I’m a bit nervous about this debate. Not for any specific reason, but I just have a feeling McCain’s going to be competent. Obama’s always steady, but there’s some nervousness that this being his last chance to really change the game. ic
- 5:57 PST- third and final installment of these debates. including the primaries, there was over thirty or some stupid number like that. it’s all finally almost over. jc

haha, that’s great ian. i saw that too
October 15th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
I’m nervous too, but McCain is saying nothing but attacks on Obama while Barrack wants to talk about issues.
McCain comes across desperate.
October 15th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Obama makes an effort to look at the camera to talk to the voters and McCain never glances at it. interesting…

Obama is a very well spoken plebe,do not be fooled by his smooth delivery and soothing platittudes. You all know he has no substance, just admit it. I know he’s cool with the IN crowd, but, in the long run you will regret voting the socialist agenda.
October 15th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Did you guys catch when McCain said, “Sarah Palin will be a breast of fresh air.” ? lol
October 15th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
socialist agenda… please. i wish the dude was more socialist! but prey tell, in your wildest fantasies what would this socialist agenda bring? we just saw with this bailout the biggest socialist move this country has made since, well, possibly ever.
is it bc he talks about getting people health care through the assistance of *gasp* the government? that same government which builds the roads we use everyday, delivers us our mail, puts out fires we start, fights crime in our streets, builds schools our kids attend… that awful government?
———————————-
believe me, i will not regret NOT voting for an old crank who pledges to stay on the same disastrous economic course set the last 8 years (he says he’s about reform, but i got a pig with lipstick you gotta check out). i do agree though, mccain with his long record is a man of substance. it’s just a toxic one. i’d rather take my chances with ‘mr. smooth’.

McCain’s best moment according to the chattering class:
“I am not George Bush.”
Two things came to mind when he said this:
“I am not a Crook”
&
Lakeoff’s “Don’t think of an Elephant”.
If you have to say you’re not George Bush, then you’re probably not too different than Bush (90% to be exact).

Obama says I will give a tax cut to 95% of taxpayers, when only 70% of the people pay taxes. Like Mac Daddy said “listen to his words” .I know, it’s easy to be swept up in O’s persona and eloquence, even I find myself attracted to him. ;)
October 16th, 2008 at 7:46 am
interesting point beetle. I’ll look into that today and “listen to his words”. Still doesn’t change the fact that anyone making under $250k will have their taxes reduced though.
by the way, I don’t think “Joe Plumber” understands the business he’s buying. If he is buying a business that will give himself $250k+ of personal income per year, then he has a shit load of money because that 250k would be deducted from the companies profits (plus all other workers & expenditures) meaning that this plumbing company would be a multi-million dollar venture.

that didn’t take long:
http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/numbers/displayatab.cfm?Docid=1968&DocTypeID=2
Tax Policy Center predicts for 2009 under Obama’s plan that only those in the 95-99 percentile will see their income go down due to taxes.
So yes, when Obama says 95% of taxes payers, he actually means 95% of those that pay taxes. He’s so dreamy

All my plumber friends work for cash under the table, lol.

re: Joe the Plumber..
I feel sad for the man..
I’m reminded of the Bowie song.. from Heroes..
“Joe the Lion”..
“Joe the Lion,
went to the bar..
a couple of drinks on the..house, and I’ll tell you who you are..”.
I guess thats all these guys have..
Mc Cain..zero
Obama..at least we have a chance.
