Mel Torme..”I’m Coming Home”..
Nov 15th, 2008 by Dr. Robert
strange but very cool stuff from Mel Torme..1963..
inspired by Warm Jets post of ..Nancy Sinatra’s version of “Bang Bang”..
on the Cabinessence blog..
.
it reminded me what an awkward time this was for the Pop oligarchy at that point..
the Beatles had killed em..Dylan was going ape shit.. the Brits were almost single handedly resurrecting Blues..and .psychedelic..”rock” was just a rumour..
Good artists like Mel didn’t know if “they wanted to be Matt Dillon..or Bob Dylan.”.
He decided to rock..
I hear a whole lot of Ray Charles in this one..
I like it.

That’s great! Did Judy Garland have her own show?

Strange, the life of any song through time. The listener’s interpretation during a different time and space plus the evolution of music itself all gives new life to
the art. I know this, at it’s time, was regarded as extremely sQuare by hipsters but looking at it now from outside the previous box it is an extremely psychedelic experience. As with the Nancy track, great song, ‘video’ and set design. And without all that up my own ass garbage, Mel is absolutely just ROCKIN”.
Now i should probably delete this sleep talk ramble but I’m thinkin’ I’m pretty
insightful at this moment,(i will soon regret) so wtf!
i refuse to proof read as i know i’d delete so excuse me for all this impulse spew.
Anyway, great song….good rock.
And……..TIMELESS?

Mel is definitely rocking in a sort of Sammy Davis..’who loves ya baby..it’s beautiful , man..” rat pack kind of way.
