Sad news… Mitch Mitchell passed away earlier today in Portland. He was drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, you may have heard of them.
My whole love affair with music basically started with this band and their albums. What a gift he left behind… still unsurpassed in terms of impact and longevity.

Upon Maria’s request… something completely different.
With a soberer celebratory spirit, Fire On Fire bestows upon thee a back porch performance… with lightening!
Their bio says they come from Maine, live together in a big blue house, and play simply for the enjoyment of playing. Makes sense to me.
Described by Michael Gira as “a backwoods, fierce, […]

Another music festival in San Francisco last weekend. This one took place on the somewhat under the radar Treasure Island, an artificial land mass connected to Yerba Buena island located directly between SF and Oakland. Having a good friend who actually lives there, attendance was too conveniently leisure to pass up. Plus we […]

Ska Christian band, Sonseed, performs “Jesus is my Friend”.

Well here we go..a welcome change of pace from the Political Non-Sense..of recent days.
Taj Mahal from 1968..with his insane band..
Jesse Ed Davis on guitar..Carl Radle on bass..and I believe..Chuck Blackwell holding down the drum..just barely.
Can’t say enough about Taj..look at his discography over 40 years and you will see a truly startling diversity […]

Last weekend saw Golden Gate Park transform into another one of those 3-day music mecca happenings. Outside Lands was comparable to Coachella… if a bit colder, less sunny, and attended by a generally tame (re: older) populace. All things considered, for a first time event it went off very well I thought. They […]

USA, USA, USA
If you’ve never seen Air Guitar Nation, I highly recommend it. It’s hard to believe that it’s real, but these guys are serious. (via boingboing)

This is a great clip, one of several tour diary videos coming from Robert Fripp’s record label DGM Live. They’re documenting the current resurrection of King Crimson. The band opened with a few shows in Nashville, Chicago, and Philadelphia earlier this month, and last night they began what will be a four […]
