I'm Guilty.
waaay guilty.
However, I would not call it "conspicuous consumption" as it has nothing to do with my concern of a social status.
I am trying to scale down and anything that is not ridden goes for sell.
I do find it nice to have some alternatives when my experience surfing would not be possible if I did'nt have one.
I applaud your minimalism though.

Great post,in fact I've been riding the same board for three years, and refuse to buy another 'til mine is delaminated and waterlogged. Then, and only then, I will buy another used board from Craigslist, in keeping with a "one board " quiver. Most of these guys think they need the latest and best boards from the coolest shapers , a board for this wave and that wave, blah blah, and it really is a waste of precious resources . Conspicuous consumption is the mother of all evils.

Good post Ian. This topic is very interesting. I find myself trying to argue both sides of this. I'm having a problem deciding which came first... massive amounts of Americans that are illiterate or the dumbing down of political rhetoric and culture in general. Maybe it doesn't even matter. With these outrageous numbers of illiterate Americans, where do we go from here? I really don't have an answer to this except the obvious of focusing on the up and coming generations. But like Hedges is saying, is it just the way our culture is now and that it's not going to easily be changed?

Strange, the life of any song through time. The listener's interpretation during a different time and space plus the evolution of music itself all gives new life to
the art. I know this, at it's time, was regarded as extremely sQuare by hipsters but looking at it now from outside the previous box it is an extremely psychedelic experience. As with the Nancy track, great song, 'video' and set design. And without all that up my own ass garbage, Mel is absolutely just ROCKIN".
Now i should probably delete this sleep talk ramble but I'm thinkin' I'm pretty
insightful at this moment,(i will soon regret) so wtf!
i refuse to proof read as i know i'd delete so excuse me for all this impulse spew.
Anyway, great song....good rock.
And........TIMELESS?
