a curiously mesmerizing piece..
coming down Market St; San Francisco, on a streetcar.
1905..
one year before the Big One.
so much going on..
everyone is going somewhere.
where are they now?

this one from 82′..
enough said..
just makes me glad, at least briefly, to be on the same planet.

here’s what seems to be a really nice guy..
Jimmy Page,
talking about the astonishing Link Wray number:”Rumble”,
given the time and place, this one really made an impression, and freed up the guitar for a lot of then young guys like Jimmy Page and RT.
you can hear the chords in the next post..
RT (and Linda’s) song:
“Shoot Out the Lights”
what goes around, come’s around.

Far to the left of what some would call “liberal”, Dick Gaughan has always stood for the Rights of Man, and his music and songs make the case for a real freedom beyond any political affiliation.. a philosophy deeply rooted in a love of land and all life.
A Song for Ireland, and all our world.
Peace in 2010.

Jack Rose, R.I.P.

Planet Earth lost a tremendous talent on the guitar a couple weeks back, and waaaaay too early. Jack Rose died of a heart attack on the morning of December 5th. He was 38.

Rose was as well rounded a threat on guitar as they come; incorporating elements of drone, ragtime, folk, blues, and Eastern classical into his playing, often times within a single song. The man had grace to spare.

Thrill Jockey will be releasing his tenth solo album, Luck in the Valley, on February 23, 2010.

Tension? Check.
Sarcasm? Check.
Passive aggression? Oh yeah.
That sinking feeling when intention and expression don’t match up? Check mate.

From the Duplass Brothers, this short film has more emotional terrain to unpack in its ten minutes than most do in ninety. There’s no “tells” or “short-hand” explanations here, just a series of moments. This film wants to love you and fight you at the same time.

The brothers went on to make The Puffy Chair in 2005, a film which this short may as well be the prequel to. Recommended.

Carbon Is Life

Have you heard? Global warming ain’t for real. Thanks to those like the reputable human beings at The Competitive Enterprise Institute, who produced this prescient video spot back in ‘07, we no longer have to second guess that uncontrollable urge to rev the shit out of our Ford Tundras. It’s all “life” baby, it’s all reciprocation.

Suck on it Al Gore!

the Front Fell Off..

Surf Rules…

I think there’s a message here;
wake up in the morning, find your own (motivation) and waves, have a little respect, and please, turn off your cell phone.
that pretty much should take care of it.
a couple good rides is just icing on the cake.
