Ska Christian band, Sonseed, performs “Jesus is my Friend”. Sonseed would be the perfect opening band for Spinal Tap.
Sunday Morning Selections: PJ Harvey
by Jacob on 24. Feb, 2008 in music, Sunday Morning
PJ Harvey – White Chalk Title song from a great album she released last year. While I always had been more partial to the raw power of her rockist tendencies, this brief collection of fragile, hypnotic songs highlight dramatically her talents as a songwriter. There’s an air of timelessness I find here that’s rarely achieved.
Chemtrail Sunday
by Jacob on 10. Feb, 2008 in fear, Sunday Morning, technology
These shots are from earlier in the morning. By the end of the day the entire sky was painted with this stuff, resembling clouds almost. I’ve never seen so many… I was out surfing in the morning and could see as one floated overhead a faint black/grayish matter slowly falling off the trails down to [...]
Who you got?
by Ian on 03. Feb, 2008 in politics, Sunday Morning
Okay…two days away from super-duper-prodigious Tuesday where most readers here are probably going to vote. for a little fun, I put together this poll to see where the transafixion community comes down. vote. [poll=2] [editorial note: the decision to lump candidates Gravel, Paul, Huckabee as "other" is based on my opinion that they have no [...]
Sunday Morning Selections… Mavis Staples; “Eyes On The Prize”
by Warm Jet on 30. Dec, 2007 in general, music, politics, Sunday Morning
Apologies to Jacob for busting in before the new year but …damn, I just could’nt resist after the Dr. mentioned this Mavis Lp. Not only is she in classic great form but Ry Cooder’s production puts Jim Keltner’s completely out of hand drumming up front and center. For those not in the know he’s been [...]
Sunday Morning Poetry
by Ian on 02. Dec, 2007 in Sunday Morning
“He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I [...]
Sunday Morning Selections: Battles
by Jacob on 28. Oct, 2007 in music, Sunday Morning, technology
Battles – Tonto One of my favorite songs from this year… and a fantastic video to boot. This apparently is a collaboration between the band and light artists UVA (United Visual Artists). A great visual concept, and executed with a simplicity and elegance that somehow feels rare these days. I also just love the idea [...]
The ‘Good Germans’ Among Us
by Ian on 14. Oct, 2007 in fear, politics, Sunday Morning
Getting called out. Frank Rich: … Our moral trajectory over the Bush years could not be better dramatized than it was by a reunion of an elite group of two dozen World War II veterans in Washington this month. They were participants in a top-secret operation to interrogate some 4,000 Nazi prisoners of war. Until [...]
Sunday Morning Selections..Cat Power – “Love & Communication” (acoustic)
by Warm Jet on 07. Oct, 2007 in general, music, Sunday Morning
I heard the tour that fell apart is back on. Hopefully she’ll make it out west. The last lp was produced and orchestrated by Teenie Hodges(the badass guitar behind the epic Al Green sessions during the “Love And happiness” period) and played by The Memphis Blues band. The current touring band is, from what I [...]
